Welcome to paradise and to Washington’s sprawling wine country. To put this community’s love for quality wines into perspective, the city is home to over 130 various wineries. There’s certainly no shortage of bold flavors here. With such a selection to choose from, there’s certain to be a wine for you.

 

Of course, these vineyards didn’t develop all on their own. In fact, the Woodinville area has hundreds of intriguing stories to tell that can give you a better understanding of how this paradise came into being. In the beginning, like most places, this region wasn’t much, but with the development of the Seattle-Lake Shore and Eastern Railway came an adventurous bunch, looking for new land to settle down in. Soon enough, other businesses and industries were moving in, like saloons and logging companies.

 

It would take several more decades before Woodinville would become the winery giant it is today. In the 1970’s a few savvy entrepreneurs saw potential in the city and developed the region’s first wineries. Over time, more competition spilled in until the people of Woodinville were left with enough wines around that they could try a new one each day for nearly half a year. Now, if you’re the type who enjoys stopping to take in the history of any new town you’re moving to, then you’re in luck as the area boasts a variety of local museums like the Woodinville Heritage Society, which can illustrate for you just how this town began and how it grew.

So, whether you’re indulging your taste buds at restaurants like The Bistro at Hollywood Schoolhouse or slowly pedaling along the Sammamish River Trail, the friendly smiles of the community are never too far away.

The city is home to a wide array of enchanting flavors. There are the gourmet meals and quality wines found at the Barking Frog. Then there’s The Herbfarm, where guests are regularly treated to an exceptionally high-end experience with an ever-evolving menu. Maybe instead you're craving a fisherman’s meal of wonderfully prepared seafood and a beer. Heritage has you covered on that front.

 

The Bistro at Hollywood Schoolhouse can spice up your week with a variety of delicious plates designed to be shared with a companion, from their cheese & charcuterie to their prawns pimenton. Rounding out our list is The PicNic Table along 142nd Ave NE, where patrons and newcomers alike can develop an addiction to their deviled eggs and cannolis.

Things to Do

Of course, there's so much to enjoy here in Woodinville, from its cascade of local wineries to the nearby, awe-inspiring Cascade Mountains. Now, while we won’t bore you by listing off every one of the region’s wineries, we’ll at least enthrall you with a handful. There’s JM Cellars, Efeste, and my personal favorite, Mark Ryan to name only a few.

 

Perhaps all the wine doesn’t quite suit your taste. Don’t worry, the city has far more to offer. For one, there are the hiking and biking trails along the gorgeous and humbling Sammamish River Trail. Then there are the numerous activities available at the Saint Edward State Park, from boating trips along the shore to the picnic areas and playgrounds. That’s only a taste.
